Making the most of your 3 day stay in Hong Kong on a Steal!

If you’re in too much stress, some studies have shown that going away for a while from your mundane everyday, shows a lot of improvement from stress. The farther it is, the better for your mental health.

I am a mental health advocate, hence if travelling and sight seeing apart from your usual surroundings can help you, then why not?

But if you think, traveling is very expensive, you may think twice. There are very beautiful cities and places inside and outside the Philippines that is affordable and attainable. And Hong Kong is one of this!

This blogpost is a budget guide for backpacker travellers, if you want luxury and indulgence, well.., this post is not for you.

The perfect time of the year!

Summer is extremely crowdy and also hot. You may not want to go wandering in humidity and sweat. Spring is best for other north eastern Asian countries but not for this one as Spring is a cloudy season for Hong Kong. The best time according to Hong Kong Daily weather forecast, is from October to early December where the weather is sunny, cool and pleasant. Which is why our trip to Hong Kong was just perfect which was mid November. Days are sunny, nights are cold and windy!

Airline Tickets!

There is always an airline seat sale! Believe me or not, there is! Which can go as low as P1.00 for the seat, of course you’ll pay for the tax, web fee, etc etc. You just have to be a little more patient than usual in waiting for the seat sale. You may have also need to check the airline website from time to time and your dates should be flexible. And just a simple reminder, you can check for price drop even 4-5 months before your intended flight. Sometimes if it’s a last minute booking, it will be next to impossible to find a cheap fare. I don’t know if this is true but I heard from somebody that we should not book on weekends because there are so many people wanted to book on that dates.. try Tuesday or a random weekday. Me and my cousin had our flight for only P1,500 one way, P3000 RT to HongKong!! And maybe what I heard was true because our trip was from Tuesday-Thursday!

Several low cost airlines that offers seat sale are : Cebu Pacific air, Air Asia, sometimes Philippine Airlines.

The Place to Stay!

As I told you earlier, if you are looking for a luxurious trip, this post is not for you..
The very first thing we considered is the location. We booked a hotel room at the Tsim sha Tsui area, because several parks and destinations, were only walking distance from this hotel. And then we begun searching for hotels. And luckily we found this very cute hotel, Sunny Day Hotel Tsim Sha Tsui. I checked the location, reviews, amenities, even accessibility to and from the airport and when everything seems right, I told my cousin about it. and we booked it.

I told her, not to expect much, because its way cheaper than any other… but when we saw it in real life. it was underrated and seems way better for the amount of money we paid for. We only had the room for P1,500/night per person for 2 nights! So each of us only get to spend P3000 for our entire HK trip! (full budget and iterinary at the bottom of the page)

One more good thing about this is it is just one airport bus ride away! Very convenient to travel to and from the airport! And the bus stop is just very close to the hotel!
Hong Kong International Airport! Don't forget to ride Airport Bus A21

We can’t believe we only paid for P3000 to get a decent and comfortable place to stay. Ok. So much for this, next is the iterinary!

Sample Iterinary!

Of course being a Disney Fan, (if you have read other blogs, you know am a mickey/Disney fan!), even though I saw it a couple of times before, a trip to HK will never be complete without a trip to see Mickey!

For our day 1, we had a city tour around the area, since hotel check in is at 2pm, and we arrived early, we left our baggage to the hotel and explore Tsim Sha Tsui. Parks  nearby are in free admission and its relaxing to walk around.

(a more comprehensive Charlie Brown cafe review on this post: http://cutecafes.blogspot.com/2017/01/my-childhood-love-peanuts.html check this out!)

At night, after having dinner we visited Heritage 1881, which is the former Marine Police Headquarters Compound, constructed in1884. This is now a shopping mall for luxury brands, but it is a declared monument since 1994 as it is one of the four oldest surviving government buildings in Hong Kong. On our way home we visited the harbor, just to have a glimpse of it during the night!

Day 2 is a whole day, Disney Day! We visited Avenue of the Stars then went straight to Disney Land, we stayed there until the fireworks and went to Mongkok for shopping and psalubongs.

Day 3 is our last day! Since our flight was in late night. we checked out, leave our luggages to the hotel went to Victoria Peak, ride the tram and visit Madame Tussauds museum.

(to know more on Madame Tussauds HK, click on the link https://onmydirtysneakers.blogspot.com/2016/11/waxing-second-time-is-charm-hk-visit.html )

We only had a very short stay at HK, but we made the most of what we have! And we were happy we were able to breathe somewhere far and maintained our sanity. Both me and my cousin are healthcare professionals dealing with sick people day and night, this is really a must have for the both of us! And you will be amazed to see how much we spent for the well deserved 3 days vacation!

Hopefully this helps on your next Do-it-your-own HK trip!
